"An Angel on my Shoulder"
by Geoff Monument

Describes the British fiasco at Singapore
and the subsequent melting pot of Allied POWs.
The title expresses the author's belief that a Guiding Force
controlled his movements, starting even before leaving England
to when he returned again at the end of 1945.

Survival, companionship and humor can be found in this
true account easily recognizable by those who also survived.

Dear Father Phillips,

Thank you so much for your speedy reply.  Please feel free to use my name and address for future contacts.

These are the details:

Geoffrey Alan Monument passed away suddenly on Saturday 18th April at Burton Hospital, Burton on Trent, Staffordshire
at the age of 89.  Beloved husband of the late Mildred Monument.

Geoff was captured by the Japanese in Singapore in 1942 and spent the next four years in captivity in Formosa and Japan.
In 1997 he wrote a book about his time as a POW; "An Angel on My Shoulder"  giving a personal and sometimes humorous account of his experiences, a story of determination and survival.  He continued to support those seeking compensation from the Japanese and worked helping others discover more about that darkest time of his generation.

He will be greatly missed, yet lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

The funeral will be held on Thursday 7th May at 2.00 pm at the Sutton Coldfield Crematorium, Tamworth Road, Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, B75 6LG, United Kingdom.  Family flowers only please.  For more information contact Helen Monument at gunst2008@planet.nl
