"Joined the Marine corps January 16, 1940.   Received my training at San Diego, California and went from there to San Francisco.

Sailed from San Francisco March 27, 1940.   Spent three days enroute at Honolulu and one day at Guam and four days at Manila. Arrived in Shanghai on May 1, 1940.   Left for maneuvers at Ching Wan Tao on June 12, 1940.   In a six week period spent three days in Peking.   Arrived back in Shanghai August 2, 1940 and was there doing international police duty until November 22, 1941 when we were evacuated to Olongpo, P.I.   Arrived there December 2, 1941 and left on December 8th for Mariveles, P.I. on Bataan Peninsula.

Saw action on Bataan, but subsequently evacuated to Corregidor.   Defended Corregidor until American Forces were surrendered on May 6, 1942.   I was taken Prisoner of War and held at Bilibid for approximately one month.   In June 1942, I arrived at Cabanatuan #3, leaving there July 9, 1942; worked at forced labor in Manila at Pusay, Nichols Field, leaving there July 1, 1943 to return to Bilibid.   In April, 1943 was returned to Cabanatuan #1.

In November 1944, I was taken to Callsakura and classed as "of no military use".   Was held there with 399 other POWs to prevent bombing of Jap air fields by American carrier planes; was returned to Bilibid on January 6, 1945.   It was from there I was liberated on the evening of February 4, 1945 by 37th Division, U.S. Army."
