ASIATIC TOUR OF DUTY


USS Blackhawk
(Office Staff, ComDesRom 29) April 1940-41
(Included tour of the China coast)

Commander in Chief, Asiatic Fleet,
Office Staff Manila, P.I.,
July 1941 to December 25, 1941
(Manila declared an open city
and transferred to Bataan).

USN Shore Patrol, Mariveles, P.I.
December 25, 1941 to April 9,1942
(fall of Bataan)

Escaped and assigned to 4th Marines,
US Naval Reserve Bat., Corregidor,
April 9, 1942 to May 6th, 1942.
(Fall of Corregidor)

Taken to Bilibid prison and
then on to Cabanatuan #3.

1st draft to Japan, September 1942
arriving in Tokyo late November 1942.

Shipped by rail and arrived on
Thanksgiving eve 1942, Yodagawa Bunsho,
near Kobe, Japan.

April 1943, sent to Ichioka stadium hospital.
Experimented on May 1943.

Last of 1944, transferred to
Headquarters Camp #1, Osaka -
camp destroyed on June 1, 1945
bombing of Osaka, Japan

Camp personnel moved to another camp
for temporary housing prior to moving
by rail to the very northern tip of Honshu,
(Noheji or Hachinoe)

This last camp was in a rice field
next to an AA Battery.
