Al Felsen's Biographical Sketch


Al was at Mindinao December 9, 1941 and performed duties of "busted ordinance company".   He acted as "motor sergeant, plumber, and delivering officers to the beach to board submarines.   Eventually he even went behind enemy lines bringing out Philippine Scouts over to Malaybalay.

It was at this time  (May 10, 1942)  that Al became a Prisoner of War.   He left, off of Mindanao with the Air Corps boys for Bilibid Prison on Luzon.   Then was put on the ship Tottori Maru to the port of Taihoku, Formosa;  Pusan, Korea;  Moji in Kyushu, to Osaka.   And from Osaka by train to Mitsui Camp in Kawasaki.   Then to Shinigawa Hospital approximately February 1943.   From there to Aomori to await transportation to The Steel Mill Camp.   He left the Steel Mill Camp after its destruction approximately June 1945, and was sent to mine a poor grade of iron ore.   On July 25, 1945, he was shipped with two other prisoners to Niigata Camp 5A on the Northwest Coast of Japan and was there until liberated by the A Bomb.
