Our family has searched for information about my wife's uncle since 1943.
The government said they had no information other than he died.
Only now, through this ADBC website, have we learned
(from POW Tillman Rutledge) that my wife's uncle
Pvt. Stanley Mieczkowski,
K Co., 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regt. (Polar Bears)
made it thru the Bataan Death March and died in
Camp O'Donnell 8 June 1942 of Dysentery.
Using the information we now have,
I created a memorial
web site to Stanley.
Please click here to see picture of Stanley
We are hoping
someone will remember him and can provide us with
additional information about his garrison life, defensive positions and
locations, battles, March information, or more regarding his death.
The family has been searching for 57 years. The
government was unable to help us, however; his mother did
receive his Purple Heart and became a Gold Star Mother.
POW Tillman Rutledge has given us information
that we previously did not have, and we are ever so
thankful. He has helped close a very long gap of
unknowing and heartache.
We will both be eternally grateful for not just the help we have
received, but also for the sacrifices made under the
most atrocious conditions.
Thank you very much for your help.
Words cannot fully express our gratitude.
