    More Information regarding my Uncle:

Mr. George W. Erler, Jr., nephew of Marine Sgt. Otto C. Erler, Jr., remembers well, the tragic loss of his Uncle's 2 children to Mediterranean Leukemia in the early 1960's.

Uncle Otto was deeply affected by his story of survival aboard the Totori Maru, Fusan, Mukden, and Yokohama lead mine.   His interview with The American Legion correspondent resulted in an article entitled "The Flag That Wouldn't Stay Down," June, 1950 edition of that veterans organization.

I am returning to religious life, in large part, because I conclude from both this article, as well as, his account given to the U.S. Intelligence Agents following captivity, that an American Catholic Priest, named Father Edwin Ronan, who had achieved the rank of Colonel in the Phillipine Army as founder and Chief-of-Chaplains, was consoling and helpful during his trip from Manila to Fusan.

Uncle Otto is buried in his hometown of Dallas, Texas, alongside his 2 beloved children.
