    A message from James Murphy

On Saturday August 5, 2000 two Japanese feature press writers, Iwashita, Keiichi and Murata, Akira interviewed me at my Santa Maria, CA home regarding my views relating to Ex-POW experiences and to my claim against the Mitsubishi Copper Mine at Hanawa, Japan.   Some of you received notice of this interview in my e-mail to you on Aug. 10, 2000 so I will not repeat this detailed report.

Keiichi Iwashita's article was published in the Sept. 25, 2000 issue of Aera and contained my picture.

The author's note to me states that he is pleased that the article has been completed and published and that a copy of the magazine is enclosed.   He further stated that "Approaching the new millennium, I think that it is about time we cleared up the mistakes we made in the past.   I hope that they should be solved before the new century.   To keep a good relationship between Japan and the United States, the bitter feelings between us should come to an end.   And I am hopeful that the article will influence society.   Without the information you gave, I would not be able to complete it.   I deeply appreciate your generous cooperation."

He said that as a conclusion he used my comment--money doesn't really matter, what I need from the Mitsubishi Company is a sincere personal admission and an apology.   Also the caption under my picture says that I still have the nightmare of the mine, even after 55 years.

The Los Angeles Bureau of Feature Press is at 1400 Venice Blvd, Venice, CA 90291, Tel & Fax (310) 827-7910 and Keiichi Iwashita's e-mail is: iwashita@featurepress.com

I am unable to get an English translation of the article.   If any of you can help, please send me a copy.

My very best regards to my Ex-POW family and my friends,

    James T. Murphy
