Wow, what a great reunion! We had one of the biggest reunions ever seen by West Point--approximately 800 grads, spouses, and guests, an incredible game, and a blast of a good time. It was great to catch up with everyone. For those of you who couldn’t hear Jerry over the din at the Friday night formal (he got the blood drive lady treatment!) and for those unable to join us last month, we announced that the Class has chosen the Computational Chemistry Laboratory as our gift.
After a strong contest and a tremendous response from the Class, the lab was the clear winner, polling almost 20% ahead of any other gift option. Thanks very much to all who voted! The lab is an excellent choice that will significantly benefit thousands of Plebes and other cadets in the coming years. This “virtual” laboratory will be equipped with sophisticated chemistry modeling software and powerful workstations for visualization and computation. The laboratory will be named after our Class and will prominently display our Class crest. We will present this gift to West Point at our 15th reunion in 2005. Unfortunately, however, the lab will not build itself. The cost of the laboratory is $266,700.
That’s where we come in. How can you help, you ask? We’ve got a couple ideas. The first and most needed way that you can help is to contribute money to help build the lab. Please review the enclosed pledge card for all the details on the types of donations that you can make. Giving $10, $20, or $35 a month is as painless as packing your lunch once or twice a month and as easy as setting up a monthly electronic funds transfer or credit card debit. Giving these small amounts over time, however, will add up to a big—and, of course, tax-deductible—contribution. As an added incentive, you will receive a free gift if you pledge to the Gold, Gray, or Black club levels!
We especially encourage those of you supporting the USMA Bicentennial Campaign to make an additional pledge to our Class gift. A second way that you can help is to be a company rep. This will not require a great deal of time, but will be a great chance to catch up with old friends and help out the Class. We have had many volunteers thus far, but we still need reps from B1, F1, H1, I1, E2, H2, E3, G3, A4, G4, and H4. Please let us know if you can help.
