. Will anyone be taking reunion photographs and video? Ross Whitaker, a professional photographer from NYC, and his associates from Pimzlo will be in attendance throughout the weekend to document our activities creating a rich media DVD and still archive. These will be made available to all after the reunion. Charlie Rogers and Bernie Banks are working with Ross and his colleagues to create a variety of options to capture our classes odyssey. This PDF provides an overall concept and location of the photographers. What are the reunion registration gifts and how will I get them? The reunion registration gifts are a baseball hat and a totebag. These will be provided to all classmates who are registered for the reunion. This includes classmates who are married and are registered in one reservation. These are gifts as we are using the class administrative to purchase these two items. Classmates are asked to pick up their hat, totebag and nametag at the first event for which they are registered. These same items are also available for purchase for spouses or others by going to the 1987 Class Home Page http://www.west-point.org/class/usma1987/ selecting Reunion News from the left hand menu and than selecting souvenirs. When will football tickets be mailed? (updated 9/11/07) Tickets should be mailed out by two weeks before the reunion and may be mailed the week of Sept 17. If they do not arrive in time for you, you can present your ID at the Will Call window on game day. I missed the football ticket deadline, can I still get tickets? You can still order tickets through the website until mid July. The ticket office puts a deadline out there to encourage folks to buy tickets early, which helps them determine seating requirements. Tickets can be purchased at anytime prior to the game by calling 1-877-TIX-ARMY (1-877-849-2769). Representatives are available Monday - Friday 9:00am to 9:00pm; Saturday and Sunday 9:00am to 6:00pm (All times EST). The later you call the less likely they are to be able to seat you with the class. Ticket can also be purchased before the game at the ticket office (as long as the game is not sold out). How do I add people if I have already registered? (updated 9/1/07) If you have already registered but need to add people, just create a new registration with only the additions. We will merge the new registration with the original one. Now that the late fee deadline is past, a $100 late fee will be added to your registration. If you originally registered before 8/1/07, this late fee will be refunded. For more information see the registration late fee article. How were the prices for each event determined? Each event, with the exception of the Friday evening dinner at Eisenhower Hall, is self-funding. This includes the cost of the event, the 18% gratuity and the 5% credit card processing fee. The prices do not include any profit margin for the class. What is the 5% credit card processing fee? West-Point.org charges 5% on the dollar amount of each transaction to accept and process a credit card on line. This 5% charge is spilt between the credit card company (American Express, Visa, MasterCard, etc) and West-Point.org. These processing fees are standard anytime you use your credit card. Why is the Friday night dinner not self-funding? The actual cost of the event is $81 per person. However, the reunion committee believed this price would deter some from attending. The committee recommended to the class officers and the officers approved to subsidy the cost of the event from the class administrative fund. The amount of the subsidy is $14.50 per person. The price charged for the event is $66.50. What does child-friendly mean? Child-friendly indicated that children are welcome to come to a particular event such as the Friday Lunch, Saturday Mess Hall Lunch, and Saturday Tailgate. Is there a reunion registration fee? No. Each event with the exception of the Friday night dinner is self-funding. Are football tickets included in the registration? No. The purchase of football tickets is each classmate’s individual responsibility. To ensure seating in the Class of 1987 block of seats on the in upper decks of the Army side (west side), tickets must be ordered NLT 15 June 2007.
To purchase tickets on line go to www.goarmysports.com. Go to the link entitled TICKETS to access athletic ticket sales. After choosing the ticketing link, a page will appear that includes an icon for group ticket window. Select this icon and another page will appear asking you for a group login name and group password. The West Point Golf Club charges the same price for military and civilians when playing in a class tournament. What is the refund policy? (updated 9/11/07) Refunds for reunion cancellations made on or before 15 August 2007 will be 95% of the total amount paid. The 5% difference is for credit card processing fees. Refunds will be 50% of the total fee for cancellations between 16 August 2007 and 15 September 2007. A 100% refund will be made if your unit is unexpectedly deployed/called out. Include your invoice number if you can to help speed things up but she can look it up. Will I receive a confirmation of the events for which I registered? Yes. Once you complete the registration form and submit to complete the transaction, you will receive a confirmation with what you have paid. Please print this as it is your receipt. Where do I park my vehicle once I get to USMA? Parking at West Point is very tight during the duty day and extremely tight in and around the cadet area and plain. Your vehicle will be ticketed if you park in a restricted parking area. No parking passes are provided to reunion classes. You should plan on parking in the parking lots at the old PX, the new PX, South Dock, North Dock or around Gillis Field House. From the parking lots your options are walking or taking the post shuttle . USMA Leader Team has decided to no longer allow parking on Buffalo Soldier Field. This decision was made in order to preserve the field for Intramural sports for the Cadets. Parking is available in the general public parking lots. On game day you will be directed to open lots. It is recommended you arrive EARLY ENOUGH to park and use the game day shuttles to arrive in time for the Alumni Exercises. Again, we will not know the kick-off time until 12 days out. This will drive all the other times for the day. Click here for additional information. How do I travel around while at West Point? We request reunion participants to park in designated lots and use the post shuttle. There are North and South post shuttle buses that run at 30 minute intervals from 6:30 am – 5:30 pm. These shuttles stop at a multitude of places on West Point to include the following: intersection of Thayer/Mills, Library Corner, intersection Washington/Ruger (Thayer Statue), Old PX, New Post Exchange/Commissary/Shopette. Check your destination with the bus driver upon entering the bus. For more details see the bus schedule. Will the reunion have handicapped parking available? And, isn’t the Museum located near the Visitors’ Center? Both the Visitors’ Center and the West Point Museum are located outside of Thayer Gate. The Visitors’ Center and its Gift Shop are open 9:00 am – 4:45 pm daily. The West Point Museum and the DUSA Gift Shop in the museum are open from 10:30 am – 4:15 pm daily. Both the Museum and the Visitors’ Center are great places to visit. You “old grads” will love the new museum. How do we get on to West Point now that it is a closed post? (updated 3/5/07)
(updated 3/5/07) Access to West Point has changed significantly in recent years. Please allow extra time to get onto West Point and to your destination. The following describes the current procedures at USMA, but these are subject to change based on the security level at the time of the reunion. If it hasn’t been that long, or your memory is good, you may recall there are three gates into West Point: Thayer Gate (by the Hotel Thayer), Stony Lonesome Gate (up top off 9W, behind football field), and Washington Gate (past the golf course on Route 218). Lee Gate is permanently closed. If you present a DOD identification card AND your vehicle has a DOD sticker, you may enter West Point at any gate through the appropriate marked lane. If you do not have DOD identification AND a DOD sticker, you must enter through Thayer Gate or Stony Lonesome Gate. To facilitate your entry, please print a graduate access vehicle pass by going to http://www.aogusma.org/.
The vehicle driver must present valid government issued identification (driver’s license normally), and in some cases all passengers 16 years of age and older must present identification. You must have a specific destination to which you are going (they will know about the reunion). Your vehicle is subject to search. If you walk onto post, you must present identification and have a specific destination. All individuals 16 years of age and older are required to have in their possession a photo ID to permit entrance through the gates of West Point. Are children welcome at events? Children are welcome at most events. The exceptions are the Thursday and Friday night events and grad only events like the alumni review. When possible, children prices will be available and listed on the registration site when it is opened. The class will not be providing childcare for any activities. All classmates are responsible for providing their on childcare for events not open to children. The class may provide a web site with some contact information about local childcare and baby sitters and possibly a childcare coordination bulletin board but that is still under discussion. Where is the Association of Graduates located? Association of Graduates and all of its services are located in:
Herbert Hall Alumni Center May I use the West Point Club? The Superintendent, USMA, has designated returning alumni as honorary members of the West Point Club during their Homecoming visit, and has also granted USMA alumni the opportunity to join the club as regular members. Alumni are advised that club members and reunion classes normally reserve many of the club facilities during Homecoming Weekend. Consequently, individual alumni desiring to use the club dining facilities are required to make reservations as early as possible. Dining reservations, information, and membership applications may be obtained by calling (845) 446-5506. MasterCard and VISA are welcome. Yes, in fact several of our events will be held at Ike Hall. Alumni are invited to visit Eisenhower Hall from 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. daily. The Cadet Hostess Office in Cullum Hall can provide guests with information concerning cadet activities and items of interest in the Hudson Valley. What is the dress for the Alumni Exercises and Review? (updated 9/12/07) Coat and tie or Class A uniforms are considered appropriate attire and are recommended for the Alumni Exercises and the Alumni Review. Graduates are reminded of the solemnity of the occasion and the image portrayed to the Corps of Cadets by our graduates attending the Alumni Exercises and Alumni Review. Please help us to insure proper decorum is maintained. Jeans are not allowed in the parade as a member of the reviewing party. Are former members of '87 who did not graduate USMA invited to the reunion? Yes. All former members of the class are invited to attend the 20 Year Reunion. All attendees are requested to register online and pay for activities in advance. Non graduates are invited to participate in all reunion activities with the exceptions of the Alumni Review. Will USMA and class souvenirs be available? Both USMA and class souvenirs are available. All purchases are strictly between the individual and souvenir company. USMA souvenirs are available at the AOG, AAA, Thayer Hall, Thayer Hotel and West Point Museum Gift Shops company. Class souvenir information will be posted shortly. Will bus transportation be available? The class will not provide any transportation. Very few people used it during the 10 year reunion and the 15 year and 20 year surveys indicated very little interest. We may post information for local limousine services if we can get it and classmates may wish to get together and share the ride. Parking will be limited on post so you are highly encouraged to share rides from the hotels. Are any of the reunion events formal? All reunion events are causal with the exception of the alumni parade and review on Saturday. Jacket and tie are required for men and the appropriate equivalent for women. No jeans are allowed in the parade. Children and spouses are not permitted in either event. When is the presentation of the class gift? The class will not be presenting a class gift at this reunion. We took a five year break on fund raising and will present a gift at the 25 Year Reunion. Instead of presenting a gift at this reunion, we will finalize the preparation for the next giving campaign and launch it at this reunion. Who is on the reunion planning committee?
