Fellow Graduates,
As you well know, the start of the Army-Tulane football game is now 1900. I
understand your frustration. This late start disrupts many of your plans,
and affects your ability to bring children to the game.
I am also not delighted with this time, and we told ESPN that we would
prefer an afternoon kickoff. However, through 2009, we have contracted to
play at least one game per year on Thursday or Friday, and potentially two
contests in Saturday primetime. 1900 is primetime.
The Academy does make a little money through this contract, but money was
not the primary reason for partnering with ESPN. Our deal was based on the
fact that every soldier can watch ARMY football no matter where they are in
this world, free of charge. Every home game is now webcasted over AKO thanks
to this partnership.
We also use our ESPN telecast to tell the West Point story. This year 10 of
our games will be nationally televised. Greater awareness will assure us of
a continuing pool of qualified applicants to fill our cadet ranks and,
ultimately, our commissioned ranks - and, as you know, our mission is to
produce leaders of character.
We will always work for what is in the best interests of the Academy and our
fans, and we will take all this into consideration when we renegotiate the
contract in two years.
I ask you to understand the value of this exposure as well as the cost. No
one wants a 1900 kickoff, but our homecoming game will be nationally
televised.
Thanks for all you do for the Corps and for America. We need your continued
support.
Go Army! Beat Navy!

Given the late changes to the reunion schedule, can I still register/add people for the Mess Hall Lunch and/or pre-game tailgate?
Yes. With the changes to the Saturday 6 October 2007 Reunion schedule, it is
still possible to add people or additional events to your previously
confirmed registration. These events are the Mess Hall Lunch and the
Pre-Game Tailgate Party at Ike Hall. Here is the process:
If you have already registered but need to add people or register for another event, just create a new registration with only the additions. We will merge the new registration with the original one.
Now that the late fee deadline is past, a $100 late fee will be added
to your registration. If you have previously registered, this late fee will be refunded. To ensure that you receive this refund, please send an email to
This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
after you complete your additional registration. In that email requesting a refund, please send Megan your credit card expiration date to expedite processing of the refund
Please consider any additions as soon as possible.
If you are registering for the first time, the $100.00 late fee still applies.

Dear Classmates:
On Monday 24 September 2007, we all learned that the homecoming game time on Saturday, 6 October 2007 was changed to 7:00PM. I held off on the official announcement until we (members of the reunion cmte) could coordinate how all the other reunion events would be adjusted. I understand these changes have impacted everyone, and caused several people to significantly adjust their plans. Please know that we were able to get this matter considered at the highest Academy levels. And though three hours between parade's end and start of game is somewhat less than what we wanted, I believe it still gives time for a decent stretch of eating, drinking, and socializing before the game. The Academy has worked, deviating from a standard schedule, to accommodate the Class of 1987
Several people have voiced concerns that USMA is changing schedules of reunion classes solely for the television revenue associated with broadcasting Army Football on ESPN. There are many factors involved with such a decision. The benefit of national exposure goes beyond the revenue. It includes making the broadcast accessible to soldiers around the world and the promotion of the USMA name to high school students across the country.
The final schedule for our class reunion events on Saturday 6 October 2007 is:
1230-1330 Alumni Lunch in Mess Hall
1420 Alumni Exercises (graduates planning on marching should assemble NLT
1400 hours on Thayer Walk--corner of library)
1500 Parade
1545 Class Photo (immediately following the parade)
1600 – 1845 Class Tailgate at Eisenhower Hall
1900 Game
An updated agenda is available on our website at
http://www.west-point.org/class/usma1987/content/view/76/82/
Thank you for your understanding, patience, and flexibility. We look
forward to seeing everyone at the reunion and wish you all safe travels.
Beat Tulane!

Football tickets are arriving. I received mine today and we've received many other reports of tickets finally showing up.

With the change in kick-off time for the Tulane game to 1900, our Saturday schedule will have to change. The one event up in the air right now is the parade. Once it is set the rest of things will fall into place. Our tailgate vendor is used to this and is more prepared than we are for the changes. Once we have things nailed down we will put the information out to the mailing list and here.
