Last week I decided I needed a vacuum cleaner. Wired magazine recently rated all kinds of things, to include vacuums, and the Bissell 3596 was their highest rated. So I did what a modern military guy does: I went to the PX web site. $125, plus 10 bucks for shipping. Quite affordable. On a whim I decided to check Amazon. $129, but they're shipping anything over $25 free, and last week they just happened to be taking $25 off any housewares over $100, too. So I saved $30 over the usually very competitive AAFES.

I only share this because many people still associate Amazon with just books, or maybe also CDs. You mentioned that it's much more than books; I thought this anecdote might help make the point. You can buy anything from tents to bottled water on Amazon, and, as I proved, usually at extremely competitive prices.

New book available! Dick Breakiron '51 and Dian Welle, parent of an '02 grad, have collaborated on an excellent new book, Memories and Traditions: The Real West Point Story. It is not available at Amazon, but you can order your copy today via the West Point Memories web site.

These are the real stories of the men and women who have attended the oldest Military Academy in the United States. In their own words, hundreds of graduates have related their memories, superstitions, pranks, academic challenges, and tributes. They relate, in their own words, their precious accounts of West Point history which have now been preserved for future generations.
