Dear Members of WP-ORG,
It's time for another WP-ORG fund drive! This will be FD24, our 24th fund drive since we started keeping score. As you know, WP-ORG services are made possible through your generous donations.
As in previous drives, you may make a secure donation by using your credit card at: https://secure.west-point.org/donate
Or you may donate by check made payable to WP-ORG and sent to:
WP-ORG 3800 Buffalo Mountain Road SW Willis, Virginia 24380-5082 Please be sure to indicate your affiliation and/or year group on your check.
WP-ORG is an independent volunteer organization operating separately from the United States Military Academy and its Association of Graduates. We support members from the USMA class year groups, parents of current cadets and midshipmen, parents of recent graduates, West Point societies and parent clubs, as well as other special interest groups that are a part of our community.
WP-ORG currently serves 30,000 members of the extended West Point community. Some are graduates, some are Army or Navy parents, and some are members of our many service-related lists. I'd like to take this opportunity to personally welcome those members who have joined our ranks since the last fund drive.
Should you wonder what constitutes an "acceptable" donation amount, our answer is: Donate in accordance with the value you receive from the services provided by WP-ORG, but not more than you can afford.
WP-ORG is governed by a volunteer board of advisors. Brief biographical sketches of the current members of the WP-ORG Board of Advisors may be seen at: http://www.west-point.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=28
Our budget for the next six months is $107,937, and may be reviewed at: http://www.west-point.org/budget
If you wonder why you should donate, an explanation may be found at: http://www.west-point.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=66&Itemid=73
When you donate, regardless of the donation method you choose, WP-ORG is recognized by the IRS as a 501(C)(3) Non-Profit Organization. 100% of your donation is tax deductible. For those who may need it, our EIN number is 51-03877132.
The authorization may be found at: http://www.west-point.org/publications/501SUMMARY.PDF
WP-ORG's privacy policy: http://www.west-point.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15&Itemid=32
Thank you for your support! You are WP-ORG. Your donations make WP-ORG possible.
If you receive more than one copy of this message, it only means that you have more than one email address registered with WP-ORG.

Published: July 29, 2008 WASHINGTON — Caleb Campbell, a member of West Point’s class of 2008 and a seventh-round draft pick of the Detroit Lions,
woke up one day last week expecting to sign a $295,000 contract that
afternoon. He was anticipating the team’s season opener in September
against the Atlanta Falcons. Campbell still expects to be on the sideline this September, but it will not be as an N.F.L.
player. Instead, he has been ordered to return to West Point as a
second lieutenant assigned to assistant coaching duties for Army. |

Volunteers participate in drills — and have instructors bark at them
By Michael Hill Associated Press The senior spent hours with the civilian volunteers polishing his
form for reception day, or "R-Day," for the Class of 2012. At mock
R-Day on June 27, he practiced the finer points of leaning close to
mock plebes and pouncing on people who smirked. "THIS IS FUNNY?" Davies screamed at one volunteer. "YOU ARE WASTING MY TIME!"

Effective immediately, by order of the Superintendent, the words to the West Point Alma Mater, and "The Corps" have been changed to make them gender inclusive.2 June, 2008 Fellow members of the Long Gray Line,
I’m
writing to let you know that I have in fact decided to update the
lyrics to our Alma Mater and The Corps. The realization that these
songs explicitly exclude our women graduates–two of whom have given
their lives in battle–was the driving force behind the changes, and
it's simply the right thing to do. I have received unanimous support
for this decision from the Board of Visitors and the Executive Steering
Group, whose members are the Secretary of the Army, the Army Chief of
Staff, and the Army Vice Chief of Staff.

By Teri Weaver, Stars and Stripes
Pacific edition, Tuesday, March, 25, 2008 “I had a normal artillery career, until now,” said Haynes, a graduate of the
United States Military Academy in 1994. Now, Haynes’ major job is to be
around when people need him. Japanese officers
stop by his office to ask for help with translation, to update him on
meeting other foreign dignitaries, and often to invite him to
after-work parties. “His door is always open,” said Chiba, the Japanese
general. “We can work with him in our perspective. It is great.” |
