Intrepid Goes Nowhere on Scheduled November Trip to Dry Dock

One of the Class of 85's own, COL Aniello Tortora, was the Army Corps of Engineers lead for this effort. You may have seen him being interviewed on CNN.

On the morning of 6 November 2006, a mighty tugboat churned the waters of the Hudson River as it attempted to move the aircraft carrier Intrepid, for years the Intrepid Air, Sea and Space Museum, from its mooring Manhattan's west side to a repair facility in Bayonne, NJ, but to no avail.

After slowly moving about 15 feet, the non-functioning screws of the mighty ship stuck fast in the mud. Additional tugs were brought in with similar results. Navy divers and Army Engineers assessed the situation and additional dredging was begun.

A month later, 5 December 2006, the Intrepid was finally on its way!
