John Quackenbush forwarded the following information from Lew Sorley, '56 regarding a search for a new Commandant at the Texas Military Institute:

1. Lt. Col. John Coulter (US Army, Retired), who has been doing a superb job as Commandant at my alma mater, Texas Military Institute, has volunteered to return to active duty and is about to deploy to Afghanistan.

2. I am helping TMI find an outstanding officer to replace him.

3. I think this would be an ideal situation for a mid-grade officer (senior captain, major, or lieutenant colonel) who has combat service, may have had to retire due to wounds, and would like working with young people and living in San Antonio. TMI, founded in 1893 and the alma mater of Douglas MacArthur, is owned and operated by the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas.

4. Please give me your ideas as to how I might get word of this opportunity (available immediately) to qualified officers who might have an interest. Is there anyone who served with you in the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment who might fit the bill?

5. I am copying my classmates and some others on this in hopes they might also know of some outstanding prospects.

Sincerely, Bob

Dr. Lewis Sorley
