Colonel William Frank Steer, USMA Class of 1925 and an honorary Major General, passed away today at the Matsunaga Center for Aging, Honolulu, Hawaii at the age of 106. His daughter Doveline Borges Steer was at his side.

Colonel Steer was the oldest graduate of West Point at the time of his death and his legendary service to his nation and the state of Hawaii has all who knew him in mourning. He served in Flanders Field during World War I and was the recipient of France's highest military decoration the "Legion of Honor."

He resided with two of his three daughters in Kailua, HI until the time of his death. He was in excellent health right to the end and died peacefully in his sleep at 1705 hours, March 7, 2006. Sincerely,

Don Devaney

Administrative Aide to MG Steer
