Saturday, 14 October 2006
NASA's third mission this year to an undersea laboratory off the Florida coast begins when four astronauts splash down Sept. 16.

Veteran space flyer astronaut Sandra H. Magnus will lead the crew on a seven-day undersea mission Sept. 16 - 22 onboard the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Aquarius underwater laboratory. Army Lt. Col. Timothy L. Kopra, Army Col. Timothy J. Creamer and Air Force Maj. Robert L. Behnken round out the astronaut crew. Roger Garcia and Larry Ward of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington will provide engineering support inside the habitat. All four astronauts are training for possible assignment to missions to the International Space Station.

Krajeski News from Kabul, 17 September 2006

Johnny "Mike" Spann was the first American killed in combat after 9/11. He was attacked by Taliban prisoners during an uprising at the Qala-e-Jangi fortress near Mazar-e-Sharif on 25 November 2001. My team and I recently visited the site where Mike died and hundreds of Taliban prisoners were subsequently killed. We felt a sense of awe and respect for the dead as we reflected upon what happened there. The Afghan government has since erected a memorial to Mike right where the unfortunate event unfolded (see photo). It is a quiet, lonely place.

Krajeski News from Kabul, 9 August 2007
Written by Paul Krajeski

About to finish my second month in Kabul. It’s almost long enough where extraordinary sights start to look ordinary. For instance, have you ever seen a family of five on a motorcycle, with the wife in a blue burqa? (No helmets of course.) Or stopping your vehicle on a four-lane thoroughfare in a nation’s capitol to let a herd of goats pass. Or to see one of those goats in a “modern” army kitchen being butchered on a tree stump with a hatchet (see attached photo). Each day brings something new for the senses.

It’s been a month and a day since leaving Rhode Island. After spending a couple weeks at Ft. Benning, Georgia, I made it to Kabul on June 17th. After four years talking and teaching about the Global War on Terror to ROTC cadets, I’m now in a position to experience it first hand.
