Class President Message: February 15th, 2008
Dear Army 79 Classmate, Class Gift: Our class voted to fund maintenance for the 79 Climbing Wall! Pat McCarty, Treasurer, is now organizing for our next gift that will be given at the 35th Reunion. Consider joining the $79 Month Club ($79 monthly allotment to Long Grey Line/Class Fund). 30th Reunion: A. J. Yarmie is heading up the Reunion Committee and we are soliciting Reunion Committee volunteers. Additionally, we need to decide when the Reunion will take place. A questionnaire will be coming out shortly to ask your opinions and comments. Taps: Help write a Memorial article for a deceased classmate. Our Scribe will coordinate the collection of articles for each deceased classmate below. We need someone who knew the classmate to gather, organize and draft an article about his life. Contact Tom Underwood & Jeff Gunzenhauser West Point Leadership & Ethics Conference (Mar 11): Our class is hosting this important leadership conference for over 35 high schools in Northern Virginia at George Mason University for outstanding juniors. This conference will be the model for other West Point Societies/Classes to emulate. Other classmates (Bruce Bornick & Jeff Olson) are leading efforts in their Societies. Class Coin: You can order more coins from Rick Hoff. To download an order form, click here. 79 Legacy Involvement Team (79LIT): Doug Boone leads our 79LIT events at West Point. This is an opportunity to build new and lifelong friendships amongst our 25 legacy cadets Class Crest Protection: The class officers are pursuing the necessary legal steps to protect our class crest based upon AOG guidance Networking: Alan Westfield is hosting the Toby Lyon Memorial at West Point on March 1. Rick Hyde is hosting our 6th annual Army/Navy/Air Force 79 golf scrabble at the Piedmont Country Club, Gainesville, VA, May 6. Many of regional reps are organizing networking events designed to help facilitate class interaction. Website & Database: www.USMA1979.org is our official class communications site. Kurt Webber, CIO, along with Dave Freshwater, VP, update this site. Email is our primary method of communication. Please update your personal AOG data at www.aogusma.org/regrad/gradlogin.cfm. Assembly: The Assembly is the official AOG communications for the Alumni and Friends of West Point. Each issue includes updates from the Academy and AOG leadership and articles about current cadets, graduates and historical events involving West Pointers and much more. USMA 79 has only 190 (+29) Assembly subscribers. Consider the lifetime subscription for $500. Tom Underwood makes it FUN to read. Thayer & Distinguish Grad Nominations: Last year we supported Bruce Fink's nomination of LTG Tom Rienzi (USMA '41) on behalf of the Hawaii West Point Society. We are working another nomination. Tom Graham is leading this effort. The third year has gone by even more quickly than last year and we have accomplished much, yet there is still much to do. Thank you for your support and confidence. God bless our soldiers in harm's way, God bless our class as we become the Top of the Line!
Top of the Line '79!!!
Carl P. Cecil Vision: By every standard in living memory, the Class of 79 is the most distinguished class to have graduated from West Point since the stars fell on Bradley and Eisenhower...
