USMA CLASS OF 1977

Class Gift Update 1 Oct 1998

77smcrst.gif

From: Scott Anders
Date: 1 October 1998
Subject: Class Gift and Fund Raising Committee Meeting Update

Gentlemen,

The meeting was hosted by Vinnie at the Mercantile Exchange Center in NYC on Tuesday, Sept. 29th. In attendance were: John Luther, Andy Chmar, Vinnie Viola, Bob Lamb, John Cicerelle, Dave Chepauskas, Scott Anders and Lisa Strine from AOG.

We reviewed progress with the Class Gift first. John and Andy have made good progress with an architectural firm being identified and initial specifications provided. They expect we will have an artists rendition of the Electronic Marquis in January, suitable for distribution to classmates to kickoff fund raising in 99. Location was discussed. With renovations to Thayer and restructuring of Buffalo Soldier Field the prime spot is recommended to be on the North Side of the intersection of Washington Road and Mills Road. This site adjacent to a 4 way stop intersection and should get maximum exposure.

Next we discussed Bob Lamb's (Co Rep vice chair) progress in developing the Company rep network. The first problem is that original cadet companies were not correctly identified in the databases we have. A temp will be employed by AOG to use available historical records and provide us an accurate original company listing ASAP. The next discussion revolved around the classmate profile to be used by reps during their follow-ups. If you have any suggestions for what data should be gathered by the Co reps, please forward it to Bob by October 9th. Bob also is developing an initial contact script and needs input for that as well by the 9th. Our intent for the first contact to classmates by reps is to gather and update information on the profile, solict the classmates participation as a volunteer of some sort, determine company affiliations or connections to charitable gifting situations, and to determine if the classmate has any networking needs (ie. leaving active duty, exploring new careers, relocating, etc.). Bob will coordinate with Regimental Coordinators in the next few weeks and solidify the company rep network. By the end of October, with the updated database and classmate profiles, we intend to have a conference call to ensure all reps are on the same page with our initial contact efforts. We anticipate initial contacts being made through November and December.

AOG is providing John Cicerelle (Corporate giving vice chair) a list of companies currently targeted or under development by AOG. John will scrub our updated classmate profiles for other corporate opportunities.

AOG will also provide Dave Chepauskas (Major donor vice chair) a list of classmates who are on a list of those identified as possible major donors. Vinnie and Dave will be working on this list and will notify Co. reps so duplicate contacts are not made.

I am drafting up an in-progress review letter to send to the class sometime in early November to give everyone an update of what progress has been made, to expect a call soon from a classmate, and to request any lead donations if someone has year end gifting capabilities or interests. We discussed different participation levels and different ways we can recognize and say thanks to donors. We decided to think about alternatives and make a decision at our next meeting in January.

If you can help as a Company rep. please email Bob Lamb, we need more volunteers to flesh out the network. You may already be on the list, but email Bob anyway. Also, to follow the KISS principle, Vinnie offered and we agreed to hold our future meetings at the Mercantile Center. Tentatively we plan to meet again on January 12th. Last but not least, we are planning to meet informally at a tailgate at Clinton Field before the Homecoming Game Oct. 17th. You already got some info on that from Andy. Hope you can make it.

Any questions left unanswered please email me or give me a call at (212) 576-6463.

Thanks for your interest and input.
Regards, Scott
