| USMA 1968 Policy Addressing Official Class Response to Joys and Tragedies Involving Classmates and Their Families |
It is the intent of the Class to provide to its members timely information regarding joyous occasions, tragic illnesses, injuries or death befalling classmates or members of the families of classmates, and to formally offer on behalf of the Class as a whole timely congratulations, recovery wishes or condolences, as appropriate.
Accordingly, all members of the Class, and particularly Company Representatives, are requested to pass news of such circumstances to the Class Scribe (or if the Class Scribe is unavailable to any other Class Officer) as promptly as possible upon becoming aware of them. The Class Scribe (or other Class s Officer), upon receiving news of such circumstances, will prepare and disseminate by electronic correspondence a note providing such particulars as may then be available to the class electronic distribution list. If additional pertinent information subsequently becomes available (e.g., an improved or deteriorated condition, funeral arrangements, memorial preferences, etc.) the Class Scribe (or other Class Officer) will prepare and send a supplemental electronic communication passing along appropriate particulars.
Timely correspondence on behalf of the Class formally acknowledging the joyous or sad circumstances will be prepared and sent through the U.S. Postal System to the Classmate concerned or his survivors, as appropriate, by the Class President or, if he should be unavailable or unable to do so in a timely manner, by the Class Vice President or, if neither is available or able to do so in a timely manner, by any other Class Officer.
