USMA Class of 1968 - Class Gift Status Update
Classmate,
I wanted to personally thank each of you who have pledged and/or contributed to our class gift, and to provide the class an update on our fund-raising effort.
Through the 12th of January, 322 members of the class have made a pledge and/or contribution toward the $2.5M goal which must be realized by our 40th reunion. That represents 47.98% of currently living classmates. Hopefully, many other classmates will soon join this effort to leave a lasting material legacy from our class to those who follow us as members of the long grey
line.
As you may recall, we delivered a first installment of $500K at our 35th reunion, and were to make a second payment of $1M by year end 2004. We would have successfully raised that $1M but for the effect of market vagaries on the value of some generous stock contributions. As of this mailing, we have raised approximately $900K in currently available cash - - a shortfall of $100K. The good news, however, is that the Academy’s planned award of the library contract has been delayed until March 1st, which has the effect of extending the due date for that $1M payment. We still have a chance to fulfill our commitment in a timely manner. Accordingly, I’d like to ask you to please consider making a new contribution or paying all or a portion of your outstanding pledge in February 2005.
With the continuing generosity of those classmates already supporting this effort and the help of classmates who have not as yet gotten around to doing so, I am confident that we can close the remaining $100K gap for our second installment payment, and cover the balance of the $2.5M total with contributions and pledges before year end 2005.
Id like to close by again offering thanks and appreciation to everyone supporting this effort - - including those who stepped up to help the gap in December. Id also like to acknowledge the outstanding efforts and achievements of some companies and their reps. The following companies have pledges and contributions totaling $50K or more: C-1 (Pres Miller), D-2 (Jim Greenberg), E-2 (Al Kimball), E-4 (Nellie Laughton), F-1 (Fred Johnson), F-2 (Terry Holland), F-4 (Bob Shimp) and G-1 (Bob Fabrey). A special acknowledgement to C-1 and Pres Miller for achieving 100% participation.
When our class gift is complete, we can each be proud of the role we played in helping make the Class of 1968 Rotunda a reality.
Warmest regards,
Paul DeCoursey
