Dear Classmates,
During this season of giving, we naturally chose our
church, our favorite charity, and other affiliations we hold dear as
beneficiaries of our gratitude for the many blessings we have received over the
last year. With this in mind, I am asking each of you to consider adding another
beneficiary by donating a gift to our Class Gift Fund to help meet our fund-raising
commitment for the Class of 1968 Rotunda in the new Jefferson Hall Library.
Over the last three months, Paul DeCoursey, John Calabro,
and I have sent to the Class short letters and updates asking for your support
for that Gift. We now need to close
the books for this year and deliver a check to the Academy for the second
installment of our commitment. At our reunion last year, we made an initial payment of
$500,000. This year we owe another
$1.0 million of the total $2.5 million gift that we will complete by our next
Class reunion in 2008. We have
collected $770,000 to date toward our 2004 target, and now need to close out on
the last $230,000 by year’s end. Thus, we ask
that you consider sending one last gift to the Class before the end of December.
Some classmates have asked what level of contribution would
constitute a “fair share”. As
Paul DeCoursey indicated at our reunion last September, that math works out to
about $5000 per living classmate. We
would like our gift to represent the generosity of our whole class, so if you
haven’t pledged or contributed at the “fair share” level, please consider
making a contribution or increasing your contribution now.
As you know, any gift this year will be tax-deductible
against your 2004 income. We welcome all contributions, large or small,
accelerated pledges or new contributions alike. For those who have already contributed, we offer sincere
thanks on behalf of the class. We
really appreciate you help. For
those of you who have made a pledge and have not yet paid, we would like you to
consider helping us before the end of the year. But for everyone, any help you
can give now in the push to our goal will be truly appreciated. We would ask you to send any gift directly to John Calabro,
Association of Graduates, 698 Mills Road, West Point, NY.
Simply make out your check to “AOG” and on the “memo” line, write
“Class of ’68 Fund”. If you
have any questions, please feel free to call any of the members of the Class
Gift Fund Committee. You’ll find
contact information below.
In closing, I wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season and all
the best for 2005.
Take care,
Dave Ohle
