| USMA 1968 Policy Regarding Use and Display of the Class Colors |
The intention of the Class is to make the Class Colors available for use at appropriate events of significance to the Class as a whole or to groups of classmates (e.g., reunions, mini-reunions, weddings, funerals, memorial services, etc.).
The Class Colors will be stored in the care and safekeeping of the West Point Association of Graduates (AOG) in the Herbert Hall Alumni Center on the grounds of the U. S. Military Academy.
Members of the Class may request to use and display the Class Colors at appropriate events such as company, team or other West Point related reunions. In the event of Classmate funerals or memorial services, family members of the deceased classmate may request to use the Class Colors in connection with those events.
Routine requests to use the Class Colors should be made with reasonable lead time and addressed to the Chairman or Vice-Chairman of the Class Standing Committee. Emergency request should be addressed to the Chairman or Vice-Chairman as well, or, if neither is immediately available, to the AOG Vice President for Alumni Support (See below for contact information). Requesting classmates or family members will provide, at a minimum, information regarding the date and duration of anticipated usage and the nature and location of the event as well as a mailing address, if the event is not to occur at West Point.
Requests for use of the Class Colors generally will be honored on a “first come, first served basis.” However, in the event of competing requests, the order of precedence will be classmate funerals or memorial services followed by funerals of immediate family members followed by social events.
Requestors must agree to payment of (1) a “usage fee” of $25 to defray the cost of periodically replacing worn out flags, and (2) the costs of dry cleaning or repairing any damage or replacing the Class Colors, should they be lost or destroyed. Classmates or family members requesting the Class Colors for use at locations away from West Point must agree, additionally, to cover costs associated with shipping the Colors to the remote location and returning the Colors to the AOG Alumni Building or to another address for another scheduled event if so directed by the Class Standing Committee Chairman, Vice-Chairman or by AOG. Shipment will be arranged through a reputable, national carrier (e.g., USPS, UPS, FEDEX). The Colors must be returned to AOG or forwarded for use at the next scheduled event promptly. Normally shipment should occur within 48 hours following the event for which the colors have been scheduled, so that they will be available for use by other classmates at other events.
