5. Ike Telegram – pre Navy [for the left rear pillar]

YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE WHAT YOU GIVE TODAY.
THE MORE YOU GIVE THE MORE YOU WILL KEEP!

On the eve of the Army-Navy football game in 1964, Dwight D. Eisenhower wrote to the Class of 1965:

Fifty years ago this date Army met Navy
as you will tomorrow. We too had lost to them five out of six
times, and we too had to win because it was our last game and
it was Navy.

The final score – Army 20, Navy 0 – has been the source
of undiminished pride to our class despite the varied
paths down which this half century led us.

You will always have what you give today.
The more you give the more you will keep. Every Army man is
with you all the way. Beat Navy!

Following Ike’s exhortation, on December 1,1964, the 1965 led Army Team gave everything in an 11 – 8 upset victory over the Navy Team, led by the Heisman Trophy winner, Roger Staubach.
