George Domas and Steve Weisel are planning a trek into the beautiful and scenic Pecos Wilderness of New Mexico.  After conquering the Appalachian Trail the pair has looked to other challenges to extend them and to add more credentials to their already impressive resumes.  Ken Kvam has offered to be the local guide as long as George and Steve agreed to keep the pace slow enough to enable him to keep them in sight.  Also accompanying these two monster trekkers will be Bill Hoover and Fred Taylor.  Others have indicated an interest but have yet to commit.

The trip section is planning this adventure for the period 14-18 August of this year.  It is not for the faint of heart as base camp at Pecos Baldy Lake will be at 10,500 ft. and one of the day trips will be to the top of East Pecos Baldy Mountain at 12,500 ft.  All of the other daily activities (fishing, hiking, etc.) will be “at altitude”.  With any luck, deer, elk, and Big Horn Rocky Mountain Sheep will be seen, and may even eat Jolly Ranchers out of our hands.  Both before and after the trip Commander’s Time will be available in the local region – Santa Fe, Taos, Angel Fire, Albuquerque, Gallup, and Las Vegas (NM, that is), just to name a few of the NM “Hot Spots”.  Mesa Verde National Park, home of the famous Anasazi Cliff Dwellings, is also within striking distance.

There’s still time for you to join up and participate.  Mind you, it isn’t a cakewalk; but my wife and I have hiked in several times – once we took our college-aged daughter, so it’s NOT out of your reach.
