| Class of 1963 ~ 40th Reunion Schedule | |
| 18-21 September 2003 | |
| Thursday 18 SEP | |
| 0900-1700 Golf match | |
| 1000-1530 Bus Tours of West Point | |
| During this time period, one hour bus tours are available. The tour is a one hour guided and narrated tour in comfortable buses, with lectured stops at the Cadet Chapel and Trophy Point. Tours depart approximately each hour from 1000 until 1530 from the West Point Visitor's Center in Highland Falls (a short walk from the Thayer Hotel). Call 845-446-4724 to reserve seats. No camcorders are permitted. Still cameras are allowed. Ensure that you have a government issued photo ID (DOD ID card or State Driver's License for example). Arrive at the Visitor's Center at least 20 minutes prior to departure time. The Visitor's Center has a gift shop, a sample cadet room on display, and a short film on life as a cadet. The West Point Museum is also located next to the Visitor's Center. | |
| 1130-1300 Quarterback Luncheon at West Point Club | |
| This is, strictly speaking, not a reunion event. The Academy hosts a "Quarterback Luncheon" in the West Point Club on the Thursday prior to each football game. A buffet lunch is served and cheers are led by the Army cheerleaders, the Rally Band and the Academy Leadership. Remarks are offered by one or more football players, one of the coaches and the head coach followed by a question and answer session. | |
| 1900-2200 Reunion Registration, "Meet and Greet" Reception at Hotel Thayer | |
| Have dinner at the Thayer Hotel or one of the local restaurants and return to the Thayer to visit the Reunion Registration Table, located near the entrance to the Thayer Hotel Crest Room. Pick up your reunion packet and then move into the Crest Room to enjoy dessert and coffee/drinks with your classmates and friends. Casual attire. | |
| Friday 19 SEP | |
| 0830-0930 Memorial Service at Old Cadet Chapel (West Point Cemetery) | |
| Parking at old PX parking lot north of and adjacent to cemetery | |
| 1030-1200 USMA Command Group Briefing in Ike Hall Auditorium | |
| Parking at the Field House and North Dock parking lots | |
| Van shuttle service available from parking lots to Ike Hall | |
| 1200-1300 Buffet Lunch at Ike Hall | |
| 1300-1400 Class Meeting in Ike Hall (Class of 63 Room) | |
| 1400-1730 River Cruise, Opening of Flirty, Tours of the Academy | |
| Following the class meeting in Ike hall, several hours of open time are available before the start of dinner in the cadet mess (Washington Hall). Use this time to explore the new or remodeled athletic facilities, drive to Camp Buckner, take your OAO on a stroll down Flirty, visit the Cadet Store (near the Old Hospital … where you can purchase anything there that is not a cadet issue item), shop the Cadet Bookstore on the 4th floor of Thayer Hall, tour the Museum or Visitor's Center in Highland Falls, take a short guided tour of the Academy, take a boat cruise on the Hudson, or go back to the hotel for a nap; whatever. | |
| 1400-1500 Bus Tour of West Point | |
| NOTE: This is the same tour as that on Thursday - see that write up above for details. | |
| 1400-1700 Flirtation Walk is open to the class | |
| 1500-1600 River Cruise | |
| Take a short cruise on the Hudson River to view the gray walls of fortress West Point from the perspective of the river. A cash bar will be available on board. Parking is available vicinity of South Dock | |
| 1800-2000 Dinner in Washington Hall | |
| Cadets will be attending an optional buffet dinner during the early portion of our dinner. These two dining activities will occur in separate wings of the Mess Hall. Recommended dress: Coat and Tie. | |
| Note: The cadets have optional Friday buffet dinner 1700-1900 | |
| Saturday 20 SEP | |
| 0900-1000 Prayer Breakfast in the Thayer Hotel (or on your own) | |
| Note: Due to anticipated heavy football game day traffic, parking limitations and security procedures, it is highly recommended that everyone staying off West Point plan to breakfast at the Thayer Hotel (or be there about breakfast time) so that there is a better assurance of parking at Buffalo Soldiers Field and getting to the parade field on time. | |
| 1100-1115 Assemble to the right of Section K of Parade Field bleachers (be in place no later than 0945). | |
| Note: Due to increased security measures, parking on the level of the Plain is not permitted during reviews. Shuttle bus service will be available from Buffalo Soldiers Field for about an hour prior to the review. This is the same shuttle that the general public will be using, so give yourself plenty of time. Alternatively, the 30+ minute walk from Buffalo Soldier Field to the Plain is scenic and relatively flat. | |
| 1130-1215 Reunion Review | |
| Recommended dress: Black or dark blue blazer, tan trousers and tie. | |
| 1300-1500 Tailgate Lunch in the Thayer Hotel | |
| Note: Following this lunch, a public shuttle bus service (school buses... think child-size leg room) will be available from Buffalo Soldiers Field to Herbert Hall. Everyone walks to Michie Stadium from there. The walk from the hotel to Michie is uphill, but not long. Increased security measures at the entrance to the stadium cause significant backups that get larger as game time approaches. | |
| 1530-1830 Football Game (Beat Tulane!) | |
| Note: Following the game, shuttle bus service is available from near the stadium to Buffalo Soldiers Field, but the walk is relatively short and down hill (yes, some of the hills do have a down side, though it's difficult to remember anything but "up" hills at West Point). | |
| 2000-2030 Cocktails/cash Bar in the Thayer Hotel Lawn Terrace Room | |
| 2030-2200 Dinner in the Thayer Hotel | |
| To add a little variety and, we hope, some fun to this event, the theme will be "Blue-jeans and Black-tie" for the men and "Denim and Diamonds" for the ladies. We would encourage men and women to loosen up, use their imagination and forget propriety for this one event late in the reunion. Give your classmates something to remember you by until the next reunion …remember that as brain cells become less sensitive, the biggest flash has the best chance of being retained. | |
| Men should wear blue-jeans and coat (anything from sport coat to tux jacket) and tie. Footwear is required for reasons of general health, however boots, shoes, whatever are acceptable. | |
| The ladies should dress casually and don any jewels (real or faux, family heirlooms or recent acquisitions) they can muster a la gaudy. We will strictly adhere to the Army's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy for this event, but we'll apply it to the authenticity of the gems. If you have the real stuff, good for you, show it off! If you don't have the real stuff, pretend you do, show it off! If anyone has the audacity to ask a lady if the jewels are real, the constraints of the Honor Code are temporarily lifted (if needed), and that lady is encouraged to respond "Of course, darling". If none of the above strikes your fancy, wear whatever is comfortable and reasonably decent. Again, "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service" applies. | |
| 2200-2400 Dancing in the Lawn Terrace Room (music provided by DJ) | |
| A fair amount of music will be from '59 - '63. | |
| Sunday 21 SEP | |
| 0800-1100 Church services (attend chapel services of choice) | |
| 1100-1300 Farewell Brunch (Herbert Hall) | |
| This will be a last opportunity of this reunion to get together with folks whom you may not see again until the next reunion. The décor of the Grand Hall of Herbert Hall is very dignified and provides a proper atmosphere for this gathering. If the weather cooperates, we can spill over into the fountained courtyard and gardens to the rear of Herbert Hall. A light lunch/brunch buffet will be served and we may even join in singing "The Alma Mater" or "The Corps". | |
