Dear Classmate,                                                                                                3 Oct 04

Congratulations!  We did it!  We completed the fund drive for our Class Gift on time and on target, fulfilling our pledge to ourselves and the Academy.  Our gift of $1.5M was combined with a most generous donation by three of our classmates who, as major donors, gave more than $4.0M.  Collectively, we provided a new Strength Development Center to West Point, The Class of 1959 – O’Meara, Malek, Dawkins Center .

We dedicated the Center at a ceremony on 10 September in honor of our classmates killed in action in VietNam .  A fittingly prominent bronze plaque near the entrance of the facility commemorates them.  The Superintendent, LTG Bill Lennox, was on hand to receive our gift and assist in the formal opening.  We toured the Center afterward and found that it is already fully operational, fully occupied, and having an impact.

We had collected $1,521,728 cash in hand by 30 September.  Our participation rate was 76 percent, one of the highest in AOG history.  Five companies were true leaders in participation:  I-2 at 100% (Congrats to I-2 as the best of the best!); A-2 at 95%; and M -1, K-2, and M-2 each at 94%.  In terms of cash received, the leading companies were:  K-1 with $235,651; I-1 with $187,154; L-1 with $126,042; and H-2 with $124,372.  Details are on the next page.

Supe and Classmates (Dawkins, Ware, Malek, and Hilmes) cutting ribbon to officially open the Center.

We’d like to thank each of you, your families, and the committee for your support and generosity over these last five years.  You made it happen!  The result is a superb legacy that our Class has left to the Long Gray Line at our Alma Mater.  Thanks again and BEAT NAVY,

                                                                                     Roger and Jerry
