Classmates, wives, families and friends of the Great Class of 1958:

You are most cordially invited to join the Class of 1958 at the Alamo Mini Reunion in San Antonio on 21- 24 October 2004.  San Antonio was founded in 1691, and our reunion occurs in the year of the 168th anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo.  Activities abound in San Antonio:  within walking distance of the Menger Hotel are the widely acclaimed River Walk (with barge cruises), the Alamo, the Institute of Texan Cultures, IMAX Theater, Wax Museum, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Cowboy Museum, and the Mexican Cultural Institute.  Within 30 minutes driving distance from the Menger Hotel one finds Sea World, Six Flags/Fiesta Texas, four Old Spanish Missions, the Museum of Art, Witte Museum, McNay Art Museum, Spanish Governor’s Palace, Buckhorn Museum, as well as the Army Retirement Community and Air Force Village.

We have planned this reunion to provide a maximum of unscheduled time in order to allow you to take advantage of the numerous attractions in the area.  In this regard, you might wish to visit the website at www.SanAntonioVisit.com to get a better idea of the variety of attractions the city has to offer.  Maps of the city, together with brochures describing many of these attractions, will be handed out at registration.  A listing of web sites is attached.

We have made arrangements with one of San Antonio’s finest hotels – the Historical Menger – to serve as the hosting venue for this reunion, and all scheduled activities are at the Menger unless otherwise specified.  A special room rate of $110 plus tax per night has been negotiated for the period of the reunion (nights of 21, 22, and 23 October), to include up to 2 days before and after those dates if desired. Please make your own hotel reservations at 1-800-345-9285.  When making your reservations, be sure to mention that you are with the “West Point Class of ’58.”  That secures the negotiated rate.  The rooms are blocked through 21 September only.  Reservations made after that date may be both hard to come by and priced at other than the negotiated rate.

In this package we have included a brief sketch of the tours available.  Prices include all transportation and entrance fees, but not lunch unless specifically stated otherwise.  A minimum of 35 people is required for each tour, and final reservations must be made by 18 September.  If a tour does not meet the minimum sign-up number, refunds for the cancelled tour will be made at registration.

Golf, for those who wish to play, is being coordinated by two of our illustrious “A Squad” members.  Art Mace and John Soper have set up two courses for you masochists.  They will pair you up on either or both days (Friday and Saturday) at two of San Antonio’s finest courses:  Pecan Valley and The Republic.  See the additional information on page 5 for more details about golf.  John Soper is the POC.  His telephone number is: (830) 755-4758.  His e-mail address is:

wjsls@gvtc.com

A Schedule of Events is enclosed.  Future mailings, if any, will only go to those who are registered.  Please complete and return the enclosed Registration form with your check at an early date in order to allow us to arrange details in the best fashion.  We are anticipating a great turnout, and truly hope you will be able to join us at the 2004 Alamo Mini.  Remember the Alamo – and the Great Class of 1958!
