I received a note from Helia Maria Sheldon, widow of our classmate, Al Sheldon, yesterday, providing me her phone number for contact, in response to my recent expression of condolences on behalf of the class.

Talked with Helia last night and she was grateful for our expressions of sympathy and advised the family will have a private ceremony of interment for Al on Friday, March 27, 11:00AM at the Riverside National Cemetery. The family would welcome the attendance of a class representative. She also indicated they appreciate the thought of flowers or a memorial gift and would welcome the offer of a wreath from the Class. I contacted John Wing, our classmate from Company C2, who lives an hour or two away and John indicated that he would drive up to Riverside and represent the class at the service next week, so you (MAY designate John as the LCA. Thanks Wingo There (MAY be other classmates nearby, but John Wing appeared to be the closest. Others are certainly welcome and Helia was very appreciative of the class interest.

Please provide the official notification to the AOG that Al Sheldon died on (FEB 4, 2009), in Claremont, CA, of a heart attack, following a brief illness, was cremated and will be interred at the Riverside National Cemetery on March 27. His next of kin is Mrs. Helia Maria Sheldon, 311 Sycamore Ave, Claremont, CA 91711; phone 909-621-1922. She has not provided a copy of his obituary, but am sure John can likely pick up a copy when he attends the service for later posting to Al's Eulogy page. She will provide me this evening the name and address of the funeral director so that we (MAY direct the class wreath to the proper location next week.

Bill Streett can now take action to advise the AOG to provide an entry for Al Sheldon in the Memory Book and set in motion other actions in the SOP. I am also copying Dick Hawkins, Al's roommate, who provided us the original alert on Al's death and also Kelly Lichtenberg who was also a roommate of Al Sheldon.

Please post the appropriate notice to the class nets.

In sympathy,

Grip Hands,

CARL

Al Sheldon's service was on Friday, (27 MARch, a beautiful Southern California day, at the Riverside National Cemetery. In attendance were Marlowe Viney and classmate Dave Maurer. It was good to see Marlowe and Dave who knew Al and previously lived in Claremont. He now resides in Montana but, fortunately, was visiting relatives in the area. Helia, Al's widow, and her family appreciated the class wreath and also thanked the USMA folks who who were there. Al's daughter from his first marriage also attended. The service was brief but very well presented by representatives of the VA Cemetary and March Reserve Air Base. Air Force personnel did the honors, presented a flag to Helia and played taps. In short, it was a well conducted and moving cermony.

A brief obituary is attached and some photos will be forwarded in another Email.
