My friendship with Paul occurred during our cadet days when he was in D2 and I in F2. I will always remember Paul's happy smile and his ability to take all the hard times of the classroom and North Area in stride. On many occassions Paul's "How's it going Willy" was enough to pull me out of my doldrums. For this, I will always be indebted to Paul.

Well done old friend, rest in peace with our Lord.

Paul was turned back yearling year and brought his famous smile to D2 in 1952). He roomed with two hives who pulled him through his second yearling year. So far so good. However, Second Class academics were so bad the Paul was turned out at Christmas in every subject. With his roommates "home for the holidays," Paul was on his own. If he failed any subject his cadet career would be over. Forty-five years later Paul told me over breakfast at the Hotel Thayer that he went from one exam to another not knowing what subject was being tested until he saw the test--and sometimes not even then. Miraculously he passed every test! This gave his self-confidence such a boost that he sailed (for him) through academics and graduated with his new classmates.

How could such a guy not be missed now that he stands proudly in the Long Gray Line?
