Edward Fox Grubbs, Jr was born on 11 July 1932 in New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania. He was appointed to West Point by Senator Martin of Pennsylvania and entered on 3 July 1955. He was in Company D1 and played squash for four years, graduated on 7 June 1955 and was commissioned in the US Army in the Infantry.
