Walter Earl Campbell was born on 29 August 1932 in Arlington, Virginia. He was appointed to West Point by Senator Robertson of Virginia and entered on 3 July 1951. He was in Company I-2, graduated on 7 June 1955 and was commissioned in the US Army in the Signal Corps.
