I remember Dick as a classmate with a very friendly half-smile. He always had a pleasant greeting for me; I felt that he liked me although I can't say why. I felt a great loss when he died so young. There was no whining, no complaining ... he just sucked it up and moved ahead with life. He would have made a splendid career soldier. I had the pleasure to know his son during my year at Carlisle Barracks when he played baseball with my son. He was a fine young man and Dick would have been very proud of him.
