William Hartwell Woodruff
Dr. William Hartwell Woodruff, 75, of Aurora passed away Monday, November 19, 2007 at Provena Mercy Medical Center. He was born May 8, 1932 in Carlin-ville, IL the son of William Verness and Mary (Parker) Woodruff.
Dr. Woodruff was a long time Aurora resident, where he practiced obstetrics and gynecology from 1968 until his retirement in 1995.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Barr Woodruff and their children, Matthew and Megan; his son William (Caitlin) and daughter Julia (Jesse) Chang and their mother Maryellyn. He is also survived by his mother Mary Parker Woodruff of Carlinville, IL; brother, John (Judy) of Pleasant Plains; six grandchildren, Tyler, Aleah, Jason and Ryan Chang, David and William Woodruff; niece Elizabeth (Robert) Paton and nephew James (Merry) Woodruff.
Dr. Woodruff attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, The University of Illinois, Blackburn College and The University of Illinois Medical School. He completed his internship and residency at Gorgas Hospital in the Canal Zone, Panama.
He was an member and fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Illinois Medical Society, Kane County Medical Society, a board member of Blackburn College Alumni, and was a strong supporter and back-up physician for local midwives.
Dr. Woodruff enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies and activities. He was a private pilot and built and flew model airplanes for many years. He enjoyed sailing, restoring cars, especially Volks-wagens, and took many long cross-country road trips. He loved nature and spent many happy hours outdoors camping, canoeing, biking and walking.
A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 from 11 AM until 2 PM followed by a brief service at The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Dr., Sugar Grove, IL. 60554.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope D. Wall School, 449 W. New Indian Trail Ct., Aurora, IL 60506.
