Anthony Frederick Verna was born on 26 November 1933 and appointed to West Point from the 1st Congressional District of Pennsylvania. He entered West Point on 3 July 1951 and was discharged on 22 October 1951 for Physical Disability.

Tony Verna was a producer of television sports and entertainment blockbusters, and is credited with having invented instant replay, first used by CBS Sports during the Army-Navy game on December 7, 1963.
