Craig Thomas Elliott was born on 12 June 1933 in Minnesota. He was appointed to West Point by Senator O'Mahoney and entered on 3 July 1951. He was in Company B-1. On 24 April 1952, he was placed on absent leave, with the right to return when healthy. He went to Cal Tech and graduated there, deciding not to return to West Point.

In 2011 he was retired and living in Southern California.
