Edwin Francis Rumsey

Edwin Francis Rumsey was born on 31 October 1932 in Ithaca, New York and received an appointment to West Point as a Qualified alternate from a New York congressman. He entered on 9 July 1951. He was in company F 2 and played baseball his 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st Class years, boxed his 4th Class year and played football his 4th Class year. He was a Lieutenant and platoon leader his first class. He graduated on 7 June 1955 and commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force.

Nancy Jane Hillyer Rumsey

August 21, 1933 - April 13, 2012

SENECA, SC - Nancy Jane Hillyer Rumsey died Friday, April 13th at Oconee Medical Center. She was born August 21, 1933 in Syracuse, New York, the daughter of Justin Dwight and Helen Marie Taylor Hillyer. Mrs. Rumsey was a graduate of Cornell University. She married Edwin F. Rumsey in 1955 and lived all over the world with his career in the U.S. Air Force.

Mrs. Rumsey was involved with many civic and community programs, the Oconee County Republican Party, was a former lifestyle editor for the Seneca Journal, director of United Way of Oconee County and worked in the marketing department at Oconee Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin F. Rumsey; two daughters, Laura Rumsey Jennings and Linda Rumsey Suther (Brad Little); a son, Edwin Dwight Rumsey; and her grandchildren, Zee, Hillyer, Camp and Win Jennings, Chapman Suther and Isabel and Caleb Rumsey.

Her cremains will be buried at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. Donations made be made in her memory to Oconee Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, SC 29672.

Edwin F. Rumsey

Col. Edwin F. Rumsey, SENECA, passed away in Greenville Memorial Hospital on Sunday, May 22, 2016. A resident of Seneca, SC, for almost 40 years, Rumsey was born October 31, 1932, in Ithaca, NY, the son of Milton and Marie Becker Rumsey. He had a longtime record of service, both in the military, where the 1955 United States Military Academy graduate served for 26 years as a United States Air Force pilot, and in the Republican party, where he served six years as chairman of the Oconee County Republican Party. Rumsey held a master's degree in political science from Auburn University. The Vietnam veteran was a delegate to the National Republican Convention in 2008.

He was the husband of the late Nancy Hillyer Rumsey and is survived by his daughters, Laura Rumsey Jennings and Linda Rumsey Suther (Brad Little); and his son, Edwin Dwight Rumsey. His seven grandchildren are: Robert Ramsey "Zee" Jennings Jr. (Hallie Yarbrough Jennings), John Hillyer Jennings, Henry Campbell "Camp" Jennings, Edwin Ford "Win" Jennings, Chapman Gregory Suther, Isabel Taylor Rumsey and Caleb Boyer Rumsey. He is also survived by his great-grandson, Robert Ramsey Jennings III.

A local memorial service will be announced soon. His cremains will be interred at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. Donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, SC 29672.
