John Leventis of Newcastle, Washington passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 21, 2011 at 79 years of age. He was born on June 16, 1932 in Muskegon, Michigan to Christ and Catherine (Antonopoulos) Leventis.

John is preceded in death by his brother, William Leventis and sister, Flora West. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Luanne of Newcastle, Washington; three sons John Jr. and his wife Jacqueline of Dayton, Ohio, Chris Leventis and his wife Teri of Oceanside, California, and Paul Leventis and his wife Rosemarie of Santa Maria, California; and three daughters, Nicola Mullins and husband Randy of Springfield, Missouri, Alicia Figueroa and her husband Luis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Andrea Arnone and her husband, James of Bellevue, Washington; thirteen grandchildren, Christina Mullins, Sara Figueroa, John Mullins, Alyssa Leventis, Francisco “Paco” Figueroa, Alex Leventis, Sofia Figueroa, Maria Fernanda Leventis, Francesca Leventis, Ariana Arnone, Michael Mullins, Marcos Figueroa, and Martino Arnone; and a sister, Zoe Strohm of Napa, California.

John spent his childhood years in Muskegon, Michigan. Graduating from Morgan Park Military Academy in Chicago, Illinois, he received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. Upon graduation with a Bachelor of Science he received a commission in the United States Air Force and led a distinguished career as a commander and fighter pilot in a variety of assignments throughout the United States and around the globe. He served his country with distinction in combat in Vietnam, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and eleven Air Medals and later earned a Master of Science in Business Administration from Central State University, Oklahoma. After retiring from the Air Force after 28 years of service, he joined the Boeing team and managed projects in Saudi Arabia and Renton, Washington. He retired from Boeing in 1993, travelling around the country to share in the lives of his children and grandchildren, as well as reveling in the beauty and majesty of God’s creation here in the backyard of the Cascade Mountains with the love of his life, Luanne.

John was a passionate defender of the Faith and of the principles upon which this Country was founded, and shared this passion with his family and with many like-minded friends. John and Luanne were also avid Seattle Mariners fans through thick and thin, and enjoyed the camaraderie afforded by the game of golf. We ask you to keep John and his family in your prayers.
