Bill--You might put this on the appropriate Class net. Dave M

Last week I drove with my daughter from Ann Arbor to Sandusky, OH, to visit Chuck Domeck. He lives in the Ohio Veterans Home, which is a very nice facility, the only down-side being that the main entrance runs you through the cemetery. Chuck is in good spirits and enjoys his accomodations--four vets per room. He can't have a computer; the reason given is that there isn't enough space in the room. I suspect that a more fundamental reason is that the Home doesn't want to
[doesn't have money to?] install internet access, etc. I'm sure that Chuck would like to hear from any or all on the net. Adddress is Ohio Veterans Home, B Unit, 220D, 3416 South Columbus Ave, Sandusky, OH 44870. Although it is hard to connect, Chuck's phone number is 419-626-3407

Dave:

Wanted to let you know that Chuck passed away about 9:45 Friday evening. Details of his memorial service are not completed yet, have to wait for the Chaplain at OVH to get in on Monday. He has been slipping for quite a few weeks, we were over on Monday MAR 17 and he was very confused and not able to get his thoughts together. Were both sad and glad.

I will e-mail you later when we have everything put together.

Thanks for your friendship to Chuck and Betty and Me.

Gordon Domeck

Charles R. Domeck

Charles R. Domeck, known to everyone as "Chuck", passed away Friday evening March 21, 2008 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, Ohio. He is survived by his brother, Gordon (Betty), sisters-in-law Helen Domeck and Joan Domeck and 11 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Elsie, a sister, Eleanor and brothers, Howard and Edwin.

Chuck was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1932 and moved with his family to Wauseon in 1941. He graduated from Wauseon High School in 1949 and attended Bowling Green State University for 2 years before receiving an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He graduated in 1955 and served 13 years in the Corps of Engineers. He also received a Masters Degree from Univ. of Michigan in Nuclear Physics. His experiences in nuclear engineering while in the Military and as a civilian took him to numerous nuclear power plants, including the Toledo Edison-Davis-Besse facility near Oak Harbor, Ohio. He served in Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star award and also served in Germany and as an instructor at the Military Academy, retiring from military service and attaining the rank of Major.

Chuck was a long time member of the First Christian Church of Wauseon but he always found a church home in every community where he lived and worked. Because he was an avid reader, he served on the Wauseon Library Board for many years. After he retired from both the military and the nuclear power industry, he resided in Toledo. One of the high-lights of his life was a trip to numerous areas where the Apostle Paul established churches in the first century. He was also a volunteer mentor with children in after-school reading programs. When his health began to fail, he lived in a group home near Toledo for 4 years and had been a patient in the Ohio Veterans Home for nearly 1 1/2 years.

A Memorial Service celebrating Chuck's life will be held at the First Christian Church in Wauseon on Saturday, March 29 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Mitch Maxted and Rev. Mary Jo Bray officiating, with visitation one hour before the service. His remains will be interred in the Ohio Veterans Home Cemetery on Wednesday, April 2, with a Military Service at 11:30 conducted by Chaplain Birmingham of the Ohio Veterans Home.

The family suggests memorials to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 or Ohio Veterans Home, 3416 Columbus Ave, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
