Reference Oscarís Oct 12, 2012 notice and attached letter on our class website.
Father Oscar no longer works among the Tarahumara Indians (he was reassigned to an island prison like our Alcatraz), but he still still remains in close contact with the large-scale support effort he initiated for them. This effort needs our continued financial support (see his letter for details), and Oscar specified a new channel for us to use to make tax-deductible contributions: through Father Ungerleider in California. I spoke today with Father Ungerleider and was dismayed to learn that no contributions have yet been made through him. I assume this is likely because it hasnít been promoted on the class net this year, and Oscar has no internet access from his remote prison location, so he canít remind us. But I can. Based on my conversation today, here is the detailed procedure:
Checks should be payable to The Iberoamericana University Foundation. In the memo section at the lower left, write Tarahumara Fund.
The Iberoamericana University Foundation
P.O. Box 438210
San Ysidro, CA 92143-8210
Upon receipt, Father Ungerleider will mail you an acknowledgment, including the Tax ID number of the Foundation, which is a 501(c)3 organization, to which contributions are tax-deductible. The Foundation will cash your check and forward the funds to the Tarahumara organization in Mexico.
OPTIONAL: When you mail your check, you can send an email to Father Ungerleider (firstname.lastname@example.org), Subject: Tarahumara donation, alerting him that itís on the way. He will email back to acknowledge receipt, in addition to sending the acknowledgment by regular mail for your tax records.
If you ever want to contact Father Ungerleider directly, his phone number is 619-980-5997.
Please continue to support the expansion of this humanitarian project -- already a proven success, thanks to the tireless dedication of Father Oscar.
