From: "Edward Trobaugh" trobaughed@seanet.com To: usma55bus@west-point.org, usma1955-c1@west-point.org Subject: usma55bus: Interim Report, Class Nominating Committee Date sent: Tue, 28 Apr 2009 17:08:31 -0700 Classmates, The Committee has received a number of fine nominations from the Class in the past two months and is about to start its deliberations. I ask that any additional nominations be forwarded to me NLT 30 June 2009. As before, please speak with your nominee to insure he is willing and able to serve if elected. When the Committee's slate is published in December 2009, each Classmate will have a 30 day opportunity to make additional nominations. Such nominations must be endorsed by 10% or more of the Class. We look forward to your continued support. Ed Trobaugh Chairman, Nominating Committee Date: Tue, 17 Mar 2009 19:46:53 -0700 From: "Edward Trobaugh" trobaughed@seanet.com To: usma55bus@west-point.org, usma1955-c1@west-point.org Subject: usma55bus: Election of '55 Class Officers for 2010-2015 Although the '55 Constitution specifies that the President shall appoint the Chairman of the Nominating Committee (the Committee) it is relatively silent as to the numbers, duties and conduct of the work of the Committee. As appointed Chairman, I am therefore establishing guidelines and procedures for the Committee's work. They are, insofar as possible, patterned on the work of Dave Wheeler's Committee for the 2004-2005 Election of Class Officers. The 2009-2010 Nominating Committee consists of six members in addition to the Chairman. Fred Pirkey and Tom Phillips served careers in the Air Force, Bill Haas, Bill Hadly, Dave Wheeler and the Chairman served careers in the Army and Dick Auer left the service soon after graduation. In accepting appointment to the Committee, each Classmate agrees discussions and work of the Committee shall remain private among its members, with only the preliminary and final slate of nominees made public. Committee work will be by phone and private email. If necessary, a single meeting will be held in Denver later in 2009. All members of the Committee have committed to membership, and the Executive Committee (EXCOM) of the Class has been notified of membership. The Chairman now is seeking nominations for office from the Class. All Classmates are reminded of the following guidelines: (1 talk to the prospective nominee first, to insure he is willing to undertake the responsibility and physically and financially able to do so, and (2 forward such nominations privately, prior to 31 May 2009, to the Chairman for the Committee's consideration. Privacy in this regard is a matter of courtesy to Classmates since it is probable two or more names will be forwarded for several of the positions. The Nominating Committee will consider these nominations, together with such nominations as the Committee may itself propose, in generating its preliminary slate of one candidate for each of the Class offices. Current Class Officers have been surveyed by the Committee Chairman. The President, Vice President and Treasurer do not wish to run for reelection or election for another office. The Secretary does not wish to run for reelection but is available for another office if nominated. The Historian, Scribe and Information Systems Officer wish to run for reelection. The Committee intends to ask each of its nominees to provide the Class with a brief comment (one or two paragraphs) as to the "State of the Class" and his thoughts as to Class priorities for the next five years. The Committee's goal is to announce its preliminary slate of nominees not later than 15 December 2009 to permit Classmates the opportunity to forward to the Chairman additional nominations. Such additional nominations must be endorsed by at least 10% of the Class and must be received not later than 90 days prior to the May 2010 Class Business Meeting (say, February 15, 2010, which is 90 days prior to start of Reunion Registration). Classmates again are reminded to confirm the potential nominee's willingness and ability to serve and his willingness to run for office in a contested election. The Chairman will inform the Class of the names of all nominees on the final slate not later than 15 March 2010 (60 days prior to Registration for the 55th Class Reunion). Balloting and tallying of the votes is the responsibility of Charlie Johnson, Class Secretary, as delineated in the Class Constitution. Ed Trobaugh Nominating Committee Chairman |
