Activity Descriptions

The following are detailed descriptions of the various activity and event choices throughout the mini to assist you in making your selections on the AOG registration form.

Raffles. Proceeds will go to cover Benny Havens beverages and other expenses:

The Renaissance has provided us with two free rooms. The two winners of the $5 raffle tickets will pay only the $596 for four nights and not the associated $89.40 city and state taxes.

The Renaissance has provided us with upgrades of four rooms to suites valued at $32 each. The four winners get upgraded to suites.

Sunday, 18 October

Welcome Reception, 5:30-7:30pm will provide light snacks, a cash bar and an opportunity to mingle and renew old friendships. Dress is casual. Supper on own afterward in the hotel or at one of the many restaurants within easy walking distance, and later gathering at the Benny Havens Room.

Monday, 19 October

Golf. (Morning) Falconhead Golf Course. Green fees, including cart, will be $65.

Bridge. Morning and/or afternoon. An informal social gathering for Rubber Bridge organized by Barbara Bauchpies. On site location and time TBA.

Texas Ranger Hall of Fame & Museum. Bus departs 9:30am for 1.5 hour trip to Waco. Group lunch on own off menu at the Elite Cafe. Tour museum from 12:30 to 2:45.  Museum tour cost is $6.00 (military rate) to be collected on the bus in route. Return to hotel at 3:00pm, arriving 4:30 in ample time for company dinners.

Fredericksburg. An all day trip to enjoy picturesque Fredericksburg's shops, restaurants and Museum of the Pacific War, all on own at your choice and leisure. Buses depart 8:30am and return to the hotel by 5:00pm in time for company dinners.

LBJ National Historical Park/Fredericksburg. An all day trip to tour the Texas White House and Hangar Museum, drive around the LBJ working Ranch, enjoy lunch in Fredericksburg with time to either shop or visit the Museum of the Pacific War. Bus departs 8:00 and 8:30am and returns by 5:00pm in time for company dinners.

Group ticket rate for the Museum of the Pacific War. For both groups we will purchase group rate tickets upon arrival for a savings of $2-6 depending on status. Tickets can be used any time during the visit.

Tuesday, 20 October

Golf. Afternoon (Course TBD).

Bridge. Afternoon.  An informal social gathering for Rubber Bridge organized by Barbara Bauchpies. On site location and time TBA.

Class Breakfast. An 8:00am all American full service plated breakfast preceding the 9:00-10:00 Class Business Meeting.

Memorial Service.  10:00am at the hotel's outdoor gazebo.

Brew Pub Tour. Bus departs o/a 11:30am following memorial service for a four hour tour. Lunch at first of three brew pubs. Individually for lunch and $10:00 tasting at each stop. Includes three tastings and a souvenir glass at each. Return to hotel by 3:30pm.  

Blanton Museum of Art and The Story of Texas (Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum). Bus departs 11:30am in time to enjoy lunch at either of the two museum restaurants. Tickets are purchased individually. Return by 4:00pm in time for a 5:00pm departure for the Oasis.

Oasis Sunset Mexican Dinner on Lake Travis. Buses leave from hotel at 5:00pm. Watch the sunset from high on a cliff over Lake Travis while enjoying cocktails and conversation followed by a Mexican feast of fajitas (do it yourself tacos) with rice and beans and dessert. Serenade by mariachis during supper followed by a performance by a Mexican folkloric ballet dance troup. Board buses at 9:00pm for return to hotel.

The cost of bus transportation is listed separately to allow those who prefer taking their own vehicle. We depart during peak traffic time so we strongly recommend you sign up for the bus.

Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.  8:30am departure for short bus trip to guided tour of world famous gardens started in 1982 by Lady Bird Johnson and Helen Hayes to educate people about and preserve native species of plants. Time for lunch on own at cafe during visit or return at 12:30 pm to hotel for lunch and/or other activities.

Winery Tour and Salt Lick Barbecue Lunch. Bus departs 8:30am for stops at the Duchman and Driftwood Estates Wineries for orientations and wine tastings. Family style all you can eat barbecue lunch at the Salt Lick paid for individually at $25.95 plus drinks, dessert, tax and gratuity. We will provide beer. Return early afternoon o/a 2:00pm.

LBJ Presidential Library. 1:30pm departure following lunch on own. Extensive exhibits of the LBJ and Lady Bird Johnson legacy we experienced throughout our early careers.  Return by 4:30pm.

Class Banquet, Glass Oaks Ballroom. The dress is informal. Cocktails from 6:30 to 7:30pm. Dinner follows. Cash bar. Tables seat 10. Company designations. Two bottles of wine per table. Color coded tickets included in welcome folders indicate dinner choice. Recorded music. Entertainment by the Gonzo Compadres. Dinner selections:

  • Smoked Short Ribs, Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Glazed Baby Carrots, Crispy Fried Onions.
  • Oven Roasted Breast of Chicken, Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Asparagus, Dripping Springs Merlot Wine Sauce.
  • Grilled Vegetable Cake, Braised Greens, Roasted Tomatoes, Yellow Tomato Coulis.
  • All choices served with:
  • Signature Mixed Greens Salad with Grape Tomatoes, Candied Pecans, Dried Cranberries and Citrus Vinagrette.
  • Texas Style Pecan Pie with Chocolate Whipped Cream.
