. . .pictures from the 2008 edition of the Fall Brawl, which was held in Pinehurst/Whispering Pines in North Carolina.  George and Stephanie Hillard hosted a get together Monday evening before the games started, and some of the pictures are from that event.  The golfing pictures are from the first event at Foxfire. 

Howie Bachman, with George Hillard as the on-site presence, set this thing up, and we had three great courses.  FoxFire was the first course, and it was a tough little layout.  That is where most of the pictures are from.  Hyland Hills was the second day, and the wettest.  I liked it as well, but the two course halves seemed to be designed by two different designers—completely different.  Southern Pines, my favorite, is a Donald Ross design dating back to the early part of the twentieth century.  Greens were rough from aerating a week ago, but were more affected by the wet weather.  I did extremely well until the last hole where I got caught in the pine straw and vines and simply couldn’t get out.  I finally lost my ball and hiked out without finishing the hole.  Luckily we had enough points to win anyway.  

The winning team at Southern Pines was Banovic, Bower, Bolen, and Farnsworth.

Through a scheduling fluke about which Jim McCormack hounded Howie mercilessly, Farns and I played together all three days.    One important note for the next golfing event; John was in a money winning group two out of three times!  That just cannot be luck, but if it is, he’s a goldmine!
