The20th Anniversary Head of the Occoquan Regatta, the 'Hot-O,' was held on Saturday, November 2, 2002.   The Hot-O Is sponsored by the Occoquan Boat Club and takes place at Sandy Run Park, Fairfax, Virginia.

The 3.2 mile long race course winds through the Occoquan Reservoir.   Click on the map to see a larger version.

The boats, coaches and coxswains arrived early for a meeting at 08:30.   The bulk of the Army Crew pulled in around 09:00 to prapare for the races.   Some photos of the boat trailer and its loading and unloading are linked below.

Parents and Friends of Army Crew arrived even earlier to set up a refreshment area.   It was too far from the parking area to be called a 'tailgate.'   Maggie Bales made a trip to her home with insulated containers to bring in hot water for cocoa because park rules prevented use of camp stoves to heat water.   The refreshment area was the place to congregate when not involved in the racing.   Click on these links for more pictures of parents, crew members and guests..

The Women's Novice Eights were the first boats scheduled to race.   The first order of business for the novice crew members was to unloading the boats, moving them to the rigging area and rigging them.   As soon as they moved their boats to the launch area, the men took over the same cradles.
